The 2024 NFL season has seen several teams underperform, and two of the most notable disappointments so far have been the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants.
Carolina Panthers: Bryce Young, the Panthers' No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has struggled mightily in his second season. After a disastrous rookie campaign where he posted a low passer rating and high interception numbers, Young’s performance has not improved. In his first two games this year, he had an abysmal passer rating of 44.4 and threw three interceptions without a single touchdown. His inability to stretch the field (averaging just 4.4 yards per attempt) and poor decision-making under pressure led to the Panthers' decision to bench him in favor of veteran Andy Dalton. This move suggests the Panthers are rethinking their investment in Young, raising concerns about whether he’ll regain the starting role or be potentially traded down the road.
New York Giants: Daniel Jones has also been a major letdown for the Giants. After signing a hefty contract extension, Jones has not lived up to the expectations. In Week 1, he looked overwhelmed by the Minnesota Vikings' defense, reverting to his old, inconsistent form. Despite some upgrades at receiver, Jones has struggled to make an impact, leading to questions about his future as the starter. With the Giants already off to a rough start, head coach Brian Daboll might soon consider making a change if Jones doesn’t turn things around.
Both teams have seen their young quarterbacks falter early in the season, contributing to their place among the worst-performing squads in the NFL so far.
